Born in Nuremberg, Germany, Alex Xavier Taylor, started his creative career at the age of nine when he began to write poems and songs that he mostly kept to himself. Due to a father in the military he moved around frequently never being able to truly fit in. He spent majority of his early life in Columbia, South Carolina; and his teenage years in Chesapeake, Virginia.
While attending Deep Creek High School, Alex started taking up music seriously and began collaborating with friends. In 2011, Alex joined the hip hop collective xShellShock with fellow classmates Nathan Croslin (@midnightgeist) and Derrick Allen (@derrickallen7666). xShellShock released a slew of projects on Datpiff.com, including their collective mixtape titled “Snafu” . Alexavier took a hiatus from music after his mixtape “Down To Mars” to reinvent his musical identity. He ventured into other passions like writing comedy sketches/short films, and returned to his childhood passion of acting while attending Wingate University. After graduating from Wingate he began working on his debut EP “It’s Just Alex” .
Alex describes his sound as alternative Hip-hop/RnB siting Toro y Moi, Childish Gambino, Kanye West, and Frank Ocean as his major contemporary influences. He draws inspiration for his art from cartoons, films, the pop anthems of Michael Jackson/Prince, the introspective lyrics of the Beatles, and the fierce words heard over syncopated rhythms from hip-hop innovators. ~ Joseph Sprinkle
“Alexavier is like an eclectic art piece that is constantly changing. I’m just trying to be me while morphing common perceptions of music, and what it means to truly be an artist in the 21st century. ” -Alexavier
